KDI Music Celebrates "60 Magical Years of Disneyland" with the Disneyland Alumni Club

On Saturday, August 1st the Magic Kingdom Ballroom at the Disneyland Hotel played host to a truly magical night.  Nearly 300 people had gathered to celebrate “60 Magical Years of Disneyland” at the Disneyland Alumni Club’s anniversary gala.

The KDI Music Volunteer Team started their day with breakfast at 7:00AM to “fuel up” for all the work ahead of them.

By 8:00AM, under the direction of the KDI Music - Managing Director, and Creative Marketing Director, the team was ready for the set up.

The Creative Marketing Director took the role of Volunteer Coordinator -  to work on the registration set-up, VIP gift bags and oversaw everything from “Volunteer Central” (she even commandeered a cocktail table by piling all her boxes, bags, files and event-related stuff on it).

The KDI Music Managing Director was busy helping set up the silent auction, coordinating the photo shooting by the Photographers, setting up stage hands to help load in the Special Entertainment for the VIP Reception and the Opening Musical Act, checking on the items for the gift bags, and whatever else needed to be done.

One KDI Music volunteered to coordinate the stuffing of 300 gift bags with goodies like notebooks, pens, DVDs and special Disneyland Opening editions of the Orange County Register.

Another KDI Music Volunteer joined the team creating the balloon bouquets to decorate the VIP reception and even “saved” a couple balloons that broke free and floated to the ceiling (thanks to the cleverness of a club officer and a piece of tape attached to some ribbon).

One of our Sponsors - Luna Guitars (donor of the Luna Guitar lanyards for the Ticket Badges) helped with the set up in the main ballroom.

By 12:00 Noon - things were in high gear as the 2:00 pm deadline for club officers to be fully dressed and event ready rapidly approached.  The ballroom was full of energy as the entertainers ran through their sound checks and rehearsals.  There was excitement out in the lobby as the Silent Auction Winners Board was prepared; the merchandise samples of shirts, hats and bags was displayed; and the “ticket book” badges were assembled for check-in.  Thankfully, another KDI Music volunteer just arrived to keep a watchful eye on the items so the officers could try to grab a quick lunch and change into their tuxedoes and evening dresses.

At 2:30 pm was the Call Time for the Opening Musical Act entertainment. Chikara Daiko from Centenary UMC arrived, and set up began on the Main Stage. At 3:00 pm the Hollywood Clarinet Quartet came to set up for the VIP Reception.

At 3:30 it was “all hands on deck” as the event officially opened. The KDI Music Managing Director greeted guests as they checked in, giving them their badges and limited edition pin made just for the event.  We took many orders for alumni club merchandise.  We welcomed the VIPs to their private reception and assisted with photos, worked at the Silent Auction encouraging guests to bid on items from retro Mickey and Minnie dolls to signed Star Wars posters to entertainment packages.  The Creative Marketing Director (Volunteer Coordinator) worked the entire room checking on all the volunteers (in addition to the ones from KDI Music) and taking care of any issues.

By 5:10 the ballroom event started, to the thunderous sounds of Chikara Daiko - Welcoming the guests to the Start of “It’s a Small World”, followed by dinner and the show featuring a video history of Disneyland and entertainment by some of the beloved Disneyland Alumni.  Some of the Video has never been shown to the Public – Holiday Land that was once an area just outside the berm of Disneyland, featuring a picnic area for special events and a picnic area.

The KDI Music table took the time to enjoy dinner and the show, but there was still plenty of work to be done when the event ended.  It wasn’t until after all the silent auction prizes were awarded, the merchandise packed away, and remaining remnants of the celebration were collected that everyone let out a collective sigh of relief – and exhaustion.  It was truly a magical evening filled with laughter, tears and memories of a lifetime that went by much too quickly.

KDI Music extends a heartfelt thank you
to our volunteers who gave their time
and talents to make the Disneyland Alumni Club’s 60th anniversary gala a big success!
